Analysis of Results

This is my analysis of the results I got from conducting my research:

Research 1: Reaction to Horror Trailers

I conducted this research to find out what my target audience found scary in current trailers. The first trailer they watched was The Conjuring 2. They found the trailer less jumpy and more intense and found the paranormal element in trailer the most scary. They also thought the ticking noise added to the fear of the scene that it was included in. The second trailer they watched was The Final Girl. They said this one wasn't very scary even though it is classified as a horror and said that the comedy element shows through more. They found the trailer funny in places. They also thought that the trailer showed too much of the plotline. The third trailer they watched was Ratter. They found the fact that it could happen more scary but thought it seemed more thriller than horror. They liked the plotline and the mysterious effect that left them thinking whats going to happen and who is it. The fourth and final trailer they watched was Oculus. They found this one the scariest and most enjoyable of all of them. They said they would watch it and really liked the concept of the film from the trailer.

Research 2: Questionnaire

I asked several members of my target audience various questions relating to what scares them in horror films and the scariest horror villain. From the results I found that my target audience thought paranormal/supernatural elements were the scariest and most interest plotlines. They also liked the element of the unknown in movies where its not predictable about whats going to happen next. Another common theme was psychological elements that made them think about what was going to happen in the story rather than it being made very clear at the beginning.

Research 3: Movie Poster Opinions

I asked two people from my target audience their opinions on horror posters. I asked about the comparison between what genre they thought the poster portrayed and what type it actually was. I also asked them their opinions based colour scheme etc. I found out that the strongly recognized horror elements were very common and what they liked about the horror posters. They also thought that the director/actors, font and tagline were also very important parts of a horror poster and these elements made are what they liked about a lot of the posters.

Following both mine and my partners research we both liked the idea of creating a supernatural/psychological horror trailer as it is a very popular theme amongst our target audience.
