This post shows our storyboard in the order it will be shown in our trailer. My partner Hibah and I both drew and described scenes from our trailer. The pictures Hibah drew are labelled HJ (2,3,6,9,10,11,14,15) and the ones I drew are marked HTJ (1,4,5,7,8,12 and 13).

Creating Our Production Logo
This post shows how me and my partner created our production company logo. First of all we decided to call our production company Headless House Productions and why we picked this name is discussed in another post. The link to this post is here:

Hibah began testing different methods, techniques and silhouettes to see which one gave us the best outcome. Then I filmed the clip using a camera and tripod to make sure the camera wasn't shaky. I recorded it from a birds eye view while Hibah added the black ink to the water that was on the paper. We did this twice so we would have extra footage if needed and because one of the houses turned out darker than the other one. This meant we had two different clips to play around with in the editing process. We used water colours to create the logo which allowed us to get the flowing effect we wanted.
Then we went back to the Media room to edit our clip. We watched both clips and decided we wanted the beginning of the first one and the end of the second clip. We used Premiere to edit our logo. During the editing process we cut out certain parts that we didn't want, added the name of our company and added effects. The effects we used were the black and white filter to make the colours stand out more and the strobe filter to add that flash of bright light.

This is our Final Product:
We decided to add the music in later as we will be using the music from our trailer. This is a common convention of trailers to have the production company have the same background music in the trailer but its own in the actual movie. Overall, I am really happy with the way our logo turned out and I am excited to shoot our trailer.

Analysis of Results
This is my analysis of the results I got from conducting my research:
Research 1: Reaction to Horror Trailers
I conducted this research to find out what my target audience found scary in current trailers. The first trailer they watched was The Conjuring 2. They found the trailer less jumpy and more intense and found the paranormal element in trailer the most scary. They also thought the ticking noise added to the fear of the scene that it was included in. The second trailer they watched was The Final Girl. They said this one wasn't very scary even though it is classified as a horror and said that the comedy element shows through more. They found the trailer funny in places. They also thought that the trailer showed too much of the plotline. The third trailer they watched was Ratter. They found the fact that it could happen more scary but thought it seemed more thriller than horror. They liked the plotline and the mysterious effect that left them thinking whats going to happen and who is it. The fourth and final trailer they watched was Oculus. They found this one the scariest and most enjoyable of all of them. They said they would watch it and really liked the concept of the film from the trailer.
Research 2: Questionnaire
I asked several members of my target audience various questions relating to what scares them in horror films and the scariest horror villain. From the results I found that my target audience thought paranormal/supernatural elements were the scariest and most interest plotlines. They also liked the element of the unknown in movies where its not predictable about whats going to happen next. Another common theme was psychological elements that made them think about what was going to happen in the story rather than it being made very clear at the beginning.
Research 3: Movie Poster Opinions
I asked two people from my target audience their opinions on horror posters. I asked about the comparison between what genre they thought the poster portrayed and what type it actually was. I also asked them their opinions based colour scheme etc. I found out that the strongly recognized horror elements were very common and what they liked about the horror posters. They also thought that the director/actors, font and tagline were also very important parts of a horror poster and these elements made are what they liked about a lot of the posters.
Following both mine and my partners research we both liked the idea of creating a supernatural/psychological horror trailer as it is a very popular theme amongst our target audience.

Movie Poster Opinions
This is my video where I asked two people in my target audience to look at a selection of movie posters and answer a couple of questions:
Questionnaire Results Analysis
This is my video where I talk over the results from my questionnaire:

Research Rationale
Target Group:
The audience I have access to are from the ages of 11-18 as
there are younger years in my college, however looking at the BBFC website my target audience
will be in the age range of 15-20. This way my trailer can include strong
language, strong threat and horror content, sex/nudity in minor detail and
strong violence if need be. Therefore, I would have fewer restrictions on
content when creating my trailer because I have aimed it for a higher aged
audience.
Research:
The first piece of research I will be conducting is an
audience reaction video. This will show me what parts of trailers scare my
target audience the most and I will be able to ask members of my target
audience what they think of each one, how it scared them, their opinion of the
trailer and what they liked most about it. I will have a group of 3-4 people
from my target audience watch a selection of horror trailers from different sub
genres within horror.
My second piece of research I will be conducting is a
questionnaire based around my target audiences opinions on horror films. I will
create a survey/questionnaire and send it out to members in my target audience.
I aim to get at least 15 responses. I will ask questions about the horror genre
in general, favourite and least favourite film etc. From this I hope to gain
useful information into the types of horror my target audience likes so I can
consider this when I create my trailer.
The third piece of research I will be doing will be a focus group. I will ask two people what they think of a selection of
movie posters. I will ask questions about what they like about each poster,
does it relate to what the film is actually about etc. This will help me when I
come to create my poster as I will be able to link it my film effectively and
add in elements that my target audience like.
Resources:
To carry out my research I will need:
- Camera - minimum 1
- Tripod – to make sure filming is steady and not shaky
- Willing volunteers
- QuickTime Screen recorder
Conclusion:
I think my research will help me understand my target
audiences feelings and opinions towards the horror genre. It will help me when
I come to create my own trailer as I can make it suit to my target audience preferences.
